Minneapolis Movie and Television Buff
This client enjoys his theater and his TV’s!
This Minneapolis client is a repeat customer. The husband is an avid movie buff. A couple of years ago, we installed an automation, security, and lighting system for them. We’ve also done some upgrades on their theater over the years. They recently completed some remodeling on their home and decided that their 18-year old home theater needed some serious attention. We agreed. We had already educated this client on the features of Media Center and they were excited about having it installed. They decided on one media center for the master bedroom system and one for the newly upgraded theater. We also installed a media center extender on the living room TV.
The theater’s ancient Kloss CRT projector was removed as well as the square, curved screen. The cabinets were reconfigured so that we could install our premium loudspeakers and 110” screen. We ran new wiring to accommodate the new High Definition ceiling DLP projector. A video processor was installed so that even non-HD programs would look nearly as good as HD broadcasts. With the processor, the HD programs and standard DVD’s look stunning! All source equipment was replaced and upgraded except for the laserdisc and beta players that the client had us integrate into the new system. An intelligent, color touchscreen master remote runs all operations in the theater including lights and the media center. This client has an extensive movie library which he has added to his media center system. Now he can watch any movie at the touch of a button.
The master bedroom already had a 50 inch High Definition plasma with surround sound that we installed a few years ago. Adding the media center just made it more fun to use the system.
The security, automation, and lighting system we installed features smoke and intrusion detection, lighting control on both indoor and outdoor lighting, and exterior cameras. When the front doorbell (intercom) button is pressed, the TV’s in the house automatically switch to show who is at the front door. After one minute they switch back to normal operation. Outdoor motion detection turns on lights as the front door is approached after dark. Lighting can also be controlled via the master bedroom remote and the theater remote. A motion sensor in the master bathroom turns the lights on dimly when the bathroom is entered at night. They turn off automatically after several minutes. A motorized shade on the hallway skylight is controlled by the automation system to minimize solar heat gain in the summer and to maximize it in the winter.
