Computer Networks

Computer Networks:
If you read our discussion of structured wiring, you already know what we’re going to say about computer networks.  Real copper wires are more secure and more reliable than wireless.  For roaming around the house with your laptop, you can’t beat wireless but for anything that’s stationary such as a computer, a media center, or an Xbox, hard-wiring is the only way to go.

We recommend a structured wiring jack be installed in each bedroom as well as the main living spaces of the home.  Home offices or future home offices should have additional data jacks.  Also, think about where you might want to have a whole-house network printer.  Closets can be a good location for a printer.  A single category 5e jack is all that’s required for a network printer (in addition to AC power).

For wireless networks, many homes require more than one wireless access point (or repeater) to enable your laptop to have a strong signal in all areas.  For your security, we utilize an encrypted network that requires a password or passcode to access the network.
